The hearts of a nation went out to the Irish U-17 football team last night as they were (in my opinion) robbed of a fair chance to continue in the penalty shootout.
Ireland goalkeeper Jimmy Corcoran made an incredible save to level things at 4-4, only to be booked by the Czech referee for coming off his line. This was Jimmy's second yellow which meant he was sent off, leaving the poor lad blatantly distraught.
Imagine, it's the quarter finals of the U-17 European Championships and Zbynek Proske (the ref) decides to send off a 16-year-old goalie for coming a yard of his line before the peno was taken?? After both teams put in a zapping 80+ minutes of graft?? I'll never understand it.
Anyway, to get a professional angle (forget my two cents) Dermot and Dave gave former Ireland player and OffTheBall.com's Kevin Kilbane a call to see how he's feeling today. He shared mine (and most of the country's) view as it happened yesterday:
That is terrible. Our Young lads so unlucky there. So disappointed with the decision to send James Corcoran off. Awful refereeing.. #EuroU17 #NedvIrl #COYBIG 🇮🇪
