I know what you're thinking, "why would I want to swim 750m, cycle 20km and run 5km all in one go?". And that's only a short triathlon.
If you go back to the 90's, triathlons were seen to be for either the ultra fit, or ultra the deluded. It only debuted in the Olympics in Sydney back in 2000. Fast forward to 2018 and the competitions attract over 20,000 entrants each year in Ireland alone.
We've become a lot more health conscious and people are looking for new challenges all the time, however a triathlon can seem feel just that bit too far. But that doesn't have to be the case.

Kevin Keane is the Head of Communications for Triathlon Ireland and told us how beginner events now facilitate participation by people of all ages and abilities.
He gave us all his tips like:
- Joining a club
- Locking in a race day on their website (so you have a goal)
- Break down those mental barriers
- Checking out blogs and videos online
He also took a look at the general cost of getting into it and discussed when is 'too far'.
