An online survey of children aged between 8 and 13 has shown that 70% are already using social media and messaging apps.
This is in spite of the fact that the digital age of consent is currently set at 16.
The survey was carried out by Cybersafe Ireland. In addition, it found that a high number of children are communicating with strangers online or dealing with incidents of cyber-bullying.

Cliona Curley, programme director of Cybersafe Ireland, Harry McCann of trendster.ie and Alan Farrell, Fine Gael TD for Dublin Fingal and chairman of the Children & Youth Affairs Committee, joined us to discuss the issue.
