A Daft.ie report into the latest state of the rental market has found that rent prices nationally rose at an annual rate of 5.6% in the second quarter.

This is the strongest year on year increase since mid-2019.

The report found there is currently an unprecedented scarcity of available properties noting there are only 2,455 homes available to rent on the Daft website as of August 1st.

Eoin O’Broin, Sein Féin TD and spokesperson on housing, and Senator Mary Fitzpatrick, Fianna Fail's spokesperson on housing, joined The Last Word to discuss.
