On yesterday's show, web developer Dylan Curran told us about the amount of information Google has on its users.
Our tech expert Andy O'Donoghue has the following tips and recommendations to help you stay safe and invisible online.
DuckDuckGo
This is a search engine that won't retain any information about you, allowing you to browse securely.
Tor
You may associate this browser with the Dark Web, but it was originally developed by the US military and can actually be a god thing. It hides your IP address and keeps you safe online.
Email Encryption
It's a good idea to encrypt your email. PGP is easy to install and lets the recipient know an email definitely came from you.
Adblock Plus
An ad blocker which is also available for iOS and Android.
Ghostery
This lets you eliminate particular websites from tracking you.
NoScript
This only allows Javascript, Java, Flash and other plugins to run on trusted sites.
Please Don't Stalk Me
If you don't want people knowing where you are, this website is a Twitter proxy which allows you to set another location for your tweets.
Cryptocat
Allows you to create secure, private chats in your browser so you can be sure no one else can see your online conversations.
Telegram
Another app which has secret chats. These also self-destruct after a period of time.
Full Device Encryption
To fully protect your device, full device encryption should be turned on to make it more difficult for anyone to hack you.
