Many of us love our dogs, but just how strong is that bond?

Tom Inglis is a sociologist and a lifelong dog lover. His new book, To Love A Dog, tells the 18-year story of his life with Pepe the Wheaten Terrier.

Pepe was there for Tom in times of grief. He lost his wife Aileen to cancer in 2005 and his son Luke when he was a baby.

He joined us on The Last Word to talk about the unique relationship between humans and dogs and how that love can help us survive grief.
