Concerns have been raised about a potential shortage of medicines such as paracetamol, statins and antibiotics as a result of COVID-19.

Ireland is dependent on supplies of active pharmaceutical ingredients and medicines from China and India, which could cause shortages due to manufacturing operations in both countries being closed.

Sandra Gannon, Managing Director of Azure Pharmaceuticals and former president of the pharmaceutical representative body Medicines for Ireland, raised these concerns in an article for the Business Post.
