Sports Stars Talk About Coping With Addiction

To mark recovery month, Matt Cooper chaired a panel for the Rutland Centre on sport and addiction.

A number of sports stars spoke openly about their own struggles with addiction and how they coped with things.

Former Cork camogie player Anna Geary talked about how her health suffered as a result of feeling suffocated by the stresses of work and sport.

Olympic silver medallist Kenneth Egan and former Offaly footballer Niall McNamee shared their respective stories of dealing with alcoholism and gambling addiction.

Former Tipperary manager Liam Sheedy also talked about the importance of coaches being aware of the mental health of their players.
