Joe Donnelly was honoured to talk to Tami Oldham Ashcraft on this morning's Dermot and Dave.
Back in October of 1983, Tami Oldham and her fiancé Richard Sharp set off on a 4,000-mile sailing trip from Taihiti to San Diego. Little did they know that less than a fortnight into their journey they would sail into one of the most catastrophic hurricanes in recorded history.
Last thing Tami remembers before she was knocked out was hearing her fiancé scream.
She spent the next 41 days in the middle of the Pacific battling the elements with no motor and no masts.
Tami wrote a book about her ordeal and that book has been transformed into a new movie called 'Adrift'.
The major motion picture was released at the beginning of the month and features amazing performances from Shailene Woodley and Sam Clafin.
We gave Tami a call to hear her unforgettable tale of resilience and love.
