On a great day for Irish sport, 22 year old Wicklow amateur Paul Dunne showed incredible composure to fire 66 in the third round of golf's oldest major, The Open Championship at St Andrews.

Dunne produced 6 birdies and no bogeys to elevate himself to 12 under par, in a share of top spot with 2010 champion Louis Oosthuizen and Australian Jason Day.

Dunne's focus was epitomised by a brilliant drive and approach on 'The Road Hole', the 17th.

He's now going to sleep on a lead and will tee off in the final group on Monday.

Bobby Jones was the last amateur to win The Open in 1930.

Padraig Harrington is also in with an opportunity to claim the claret jug for the third time.

He carded a 65 without blemishes to move to 10 under par.
