Ban for Cork senior football manager McCarthy upheld at 12 weeks

Cork football boss Ronan McCarthy will have no involvement with the squad until May after he was proven to have engaged in misconduct.

Douglas native McCarthy was originally slapped with a 12-week ban by the GAA after the Rebel squad gathered on Youghal beach last month.

The GAA have prohibited collective training during the Level 5 lockdown.

McCarthy appealed his 12-week sanction to the GAA's hearings committee and they have upheld the punishment, ruling that McCarthy engaged in misconduct which was considered to have discredited the Association.

McCarthy can appeal this current sanction to the appeals committee.

The appeal can only be successful where there has been a clear infringement or misapplication of the rule by the hearings committee or the appellant's right to a fair hearing has otherwise been compromised to such extent that a clear injustice has occurred.

After the Down players gathered at the Abbey CBS in Newry in January, manager Paddy Tally was slapped with a similar 12-week suspension, which was reduced to 8 weeks by the hearing committee.
