Bielsa contract situation "resolved" ahead of Leeds start to season

Two days out from the start of the new Premier League season, Marcelo Bielsa says his contract situation at Leeds United has been resolved.

The Argentine has spent the last three seasons at Elland Road, helping them gain promotion to the Premier League in 2020.

Bielsa's deal was due to expire and, despite a handful of big signings during the summer, his future at the club remained in limbo.

"The contract situation is one that is already resolved," the 66-year old said through a translator on Thursday.

Pressed for further details, he would only reply, "One year is habitual."

Bielsa steered Leeds to a 9th place finish in their first season back in the top flight in 16 years.

Junior Firpo has joined in a €15million move from Barcelona, while Jack Harrison's transfer from New York City has been made permanent.

"From my point of view, this is an extraordinary club," Bielsa said. "It's not often you have a club that designates so much volume of investment to the improvement of the training facilities.

"Leeds have made a significant contribution economically to provide the tools for a manager to prepare to be the ideal ones."

Leeds have been linked with further deals, other than that of Firpo, but Bielsa seems happy with the squad as it stands ahead of Saturday's trip to Old Trafford.

"I'm satisfied with the group I'm working with," he said. "I couldn't tell you about hypothetical situations but what I can tell you is the group of players I have I'm happy with."
