Brian O'Driscoll is on the panel that chooses the World Rugby Player of the Year, and he told Monday Night Rugby about who he will be voting for.

Brian is on the voting committee for the award, and will be taking part in a conference call on Monday evening, and he is firm in his belief that Johnny Sexton will be the player for whom he votes.

"I'd be talking out of turn to say that it certainly feels that way [that it is Sexton versus Beauden Barrett]," said Brian.

"South Africa had to have an enormous November for Faf de Klerk and for [Malcolm] Marx to step out. Ionae has been very good - throughout the year, prolific - but, by his standards, not that brilliant in November.

"Barrett hasn't been as good in November as he was at certain times of the year. People are probably hung up on him not taking his drop goal in November against South Africa in Wellington, but you forget that he scored four tries against Australia."

Brian let us know why he is edging towards Sexton for the overall award.

"I think on the balance of what's gone on this year, with someone that has pulled it out of the fire for Ireland with a 45-metre drop goal [...] managed to win a European Cup and a Pro 14, and has he won every game he's started this year?

"He has won the series and will be unbeaten in November.

"I think it's very hard to go against a guy who has been front-and-centre in all of those performances and all of those victories.

"So, yes - I will be voting for Ireland's number ten!"
