Chris Wilder unsure about his future at Sheffield United

Chris Wilder admits he's unsure if he'll still be Sheffield United manager next season.

The Blades are 15 points adrift of safety at the bottom of the Premier League and look set to drop into the Championship for the 2022 campaign.

United's owner Prince Abdullah had previously hinted that he would be retained, even if they slipped into the second-flight, but Wilder admits he's in the dark about the club's plans.

“I don’t know," he said when asked whether he'll still be at the helm next season.

“Listen, heads down and on to the Villa game. Let’s see if we can get a result and what will be, will be.

“I know what direction I want to take the football club in, where it should be, but it’s not happening.”

Wilder took the Yorkshire club from League One to the Premier League and he says he'd like to remain on, if the circumstances are right.

“The plan as always is to leave a legacy. To change things off the pitch, which need changing, stick with the players we have invested in, add a couple and try and bounce back.

“I know the group, I know the players better than anybody. They will want to be here and they owe it to football club as well because we brought them in, we gave them the opportunity and they took it.

“They understood the situation when they came in and they were not signing for a top-four club, they were not signing for an established Premier League club.

“They’re contracted to the football club too. The football club is in a good position, they have a lot of young talented players who will be a strong group if the inevitable happens.”
