Concussion has been a hot topic in American Football and Rugby recently and is now grabbing headlines in Formula One.

Doctors have advised McLaren’s Fernando Alonso not to compete in the season opening Australian Grand Prix.

The two time World Champion was flown to hospital following a high speed crash during testing in Barcelona last month.

Alonso avoided serious injury, but he has been advised to limit any factors that could risk second impact syndrome.

Test driver Kevin Magnussen will take Alonso’s place on the grid in Melbourne on the 15th of March.

It is hoped the Spaniard will return to race in Malaysia at the end of the month.
