Oscar De La Hoya could be set for a return to the ring at the age of 42.

“ The Golden Boy “ retired from boxing five years ago not long after a defeat to Manny Pacquiao.

Since he retired De La Hoya has been inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame and he continues to be involved in the sport as President of Golden Boy Promotions which happens to look after the very talented Jason Quigley from Donegal.

De La Hoya told ESPN that the chances of him fighting again are “ 50-50 “ and that he feels “ great “ after battles with drug and alcohol addiction.

The former world champion won titles in six weight divisions and says he won't be looking for an easy fight to mark his return.

He certainly doesn't need the money but like many boxers who retire he feels he has more to give in the ring.

Two possible opponents already being talked about are Middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin and Floyd Mayweather who beat De La Hoya by split decision in 2007 in:
