Have you heard about the sad passing of the man they called the 'Duck' in Westmeath?

Forty year old Donal Devine was training with Castlepollard on a February evening when he suddenly became ill and passed away a short time later.

Donal is a brother of inter county referee Alfie Devine and uncle to current Westmeath hurler Allan; the Devine family are well-known throughout Westmeath GAA circles and further afield.

A talented midfielder, Donal won four senior hurling championships with the club in 1995, 1997, 2003 and 2005.

A true Castlepollard Gael, Donal gave a lifetime of service to the club and his passing has been a massive shock to his family, friends and the wider GAA community.

This Sunday 6th of August the Westmeath man will be comemmorated in a special Donal "duck" Devine family day.

The aim is to raise funds to buy defibrillators in north Westmeath following Donal's sudden death.

There's a 5k fun run, cycle taking in all senior hurling clubs in Westmeath, and a tractor run.

Food and entertainment for all ages throughout the day on the square in Castle pollard, auction and music in the Pollard arms later that evening.

Call in if you're about!
