Fernandes handed United captain's armband for PSG trip

Bruno Fernandes will captain Manchester United for the first time in Tuesday night's Champions League game away to Paris Saint-Germain.

Barely nine-months after joining the club, he'll take the armband from Harry Maguire who misses the trip to the French capital.

United are also without Mason Greenwood, Edinson Cavani, Jesse Lingard and Eric Bailly for their return to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's most famous night in charge.

It was at the Parc des Princes in March 2019 where Marcus Rashford's injury time penalty secured a win over PSG, and effectively handed the reins to Solskjaer on a permanent basis.

"We hope the players won't be away for too long," the manager said on Monday night, "Edinson needs a few more days training before we can think about the weekend.

"Hopefully the same with Harry, Eric and Mason as well, but we're not sure about that."

Asked about Greenwood's issue, Solskjaer replied, "It's just a niggle. As young as he is, we don't want to take any chances with him. Hopefully by the weekend, he'll be fine again."
Fernandes only found out about his appointment as captain while sat next to his manager at their pre-match press conference in Paris.
Asked about the role, the €75million man said, "I was not expecting this, I have found out the same time as you!
"For me it's an honour, I will be captain for my teammates and to be captain of Manchester United is an important achievement for me.
"But I think everyone is the captain. Everyone needs to help and be a leader in their own way, leadership is different in every player. Tomorrow will not be about me but the team."Leading is every day in the training ground, every game and everyone is doing their job to lead the team in the way they think is best"
