Former Ireland under-20 international Coghlan signs for Leicester

Ireland under-20 international flanker Jordan Coghlan has joined Geordan Murphy's Leicester Tigers.

The 26-year-old back-row forward, who was previously on the books at Leinster and Munster, has played for Nottingham in the English Championship for the past three seasons.

He becomes Leicester's 10th signing ahead of the new season and Murphy feels Coghlan's experience at Nottingham has helped him develop as a player.

“Jordan is a physical, athletic and experienced player who we are looking forward to welcoming in to the club.

“His junior career speaks for itself and achievements back home in Ireland as a young man have served him well in his career."

While Dublin-native Coghlan, who also played cricket for Ireland at under-age level, is excited to join Leicester.

“This is Leicester Tigers — the most successful club in English history. For me, to be part of that is a huge honour.

“Geordan is working hard to build something special here in Leicester and get Tigers back to the top flight of the Prem, where they belong, and I’m happy to be a part of that.

“I’m just looking forward to getting stuck in.

“I’ve met the squad and coaches, who have all been amazing and really welcomed me into the club. There is a lot of talent in this squad and great people around, so I’m really excited to be a part of it and contribute to the club.”

The Tigers also confirmed today that EW Viljoen and Hanro Liebenberg will join the club.

Murphy feels the South African duo will add squad depth at Welford Road.

"EW adds a lot to our outside-back stocks.

"EW is a versatile, skilful and exciting player to have as part of our group.

"Hanro is an aggressive ball-carrier and a physical player around the field, in the best traditions of South African back-row players."
