The Allianz National Football League got underway on Saturday with plenty of action around the country while the National Hurling League also continued. 

In Division One of the football, champions Kerry hammered Galway 4-21 to 0-11 in Tralee with David Clifford showing his class once again.

The Fossa man scored no less than 3-6 as they sent Pádraic Joyce's side packing.

Donegal meanwhile beat Tyrone 0-18 to 0-16 in their north-west derby in Omagh in what was the Red Hand's first game post Mickey Harte.

Harte meanwhile didn't have a dream start in his new Louth tenure - they were beaten by a point by Antrim in Division Four.

3-8 to 1-15 was the final score at Geraldines GFC.

Elsewhere in Division Four Carlow beat Waterford 3-16 to 0-10 at Fraher Field.

Mayo adjusted well to life in the second tier  - beating Down 2-21 to 1-11 at Elverys MacHale Park.

While elsewhere in Division Two Kildare beat Cork 2-12 to 0-14 at Semple Stadium.

In Division Three Derry beat Longford on a scoreline of 0-21 to 0-5 at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park.

While Fermanagh beat neighbours Cavan 0-15 to 0-14 at Brewster Park.

And Limerick produced a shock as they beat Munster rivals Tipperary 1-13 to 0-14 at the LIT Gaelic Grounds.

Switching codes and in Division One of the Allianz National Hurling League Tipperary and Cork played out a 0-22 to 2-16 thriller at  Semple Stadium.

Tim O'Mahony and Patrick Horgan with the goals for the Rebels.

Elsewhere in the top division, Dublin beat Laois 0-30 to 1-19 at MW Hire O'Moore Park.

In Division Two Meath enjoyed a 0-20 to 0-11 win over Wicklow at Aughrim.

Kildare beat Donegal 4-29 to 0-14 at St Conleth's Park and Mayo beat neighbours Roscommon by a single point.

1-20 to 1-19 was the final score at Dr Hyde Park.
