Get in and get out: Portuguese govt issue Champions League final rules

Chelsea and Manchester City fans fortunate enough to secure Champions League final tickets won't have much time to savour the event.

The switching of venues from Istanbul's Ataturk Stadium to the Dragao Stadium in Porto has come with some stringent restrictions from the Portuguese government.

6,000 fans from each club will be allowed to attend the May 29 showpiece.

Turkey was placed on the UK government's 'red' travel list last week, while travel to Portugal does not require quarantine upon the return to English soil.

However, a briefing from Portugal’s Cabinet Affairs Minister Mariana Vieira da Silva on Thursday informed potential travellers of the guidelines to which they must adhere.

"Those who come to the final of the Champions League will come and return on the same day, with a test done, in a bubble situation, on charter flights," she said.

“There will be two fan zones and from there they will be moved to the stadium and from the stadium to the airport, being in Portugal less than 24 hours."

The Minister stipulated that ticketless fans travelling to Porto merely to soak up the occasion would not be subject to the same restrictions.

“Obviously those coming by plane will comply with the established rules and security measures will be put in place as happened in Lisbon last year," she said.

Earlier in the day Manchester City informed their supporters, "The club will be offering qualifying supporters an official day trip travel package from Manchester to Porto.

"Further information will be provided to supporters as soon as possible."
