It's looking like the intercounty career of one of Ireland's greatest ever gaelic footballers has drawn to a close.

Confirmation is expected from the Kingdom later that Colm Cooper is hanging up the boots.

Aged 33 he played in 9 All Irelands and won 4 having made his debut as a 19 year old in 2002.

The man they call the Gooch also lined out in Croke park on St Patrick's day helping Dr. Crokes of Killarney to claim a first All Ireland club title in 25 years.

It's clear that win meant a lot to the Kerry All Star.

Someone who has been a pleasure to deal with, the Killarney man must have given scores of defenders sleepless nights for a selection of reasons here.

Pat Spillane may have a rival for a bit of TV airtime now as Colm showed himself as handy in the studio as on the pitch when he appeared on Today FM's Championship Sunday last summer. Watch this space.
