Jack McCaffrey expects Dublin captain Stephen Cluxton to continue playing this season

Dublin defender Jack McCaffrey expects his captain Stephen Cluxton to play for Dublin for a 20th season.

There had been speculation over whether the five-in-a-row winning captain would join Bernard Brogan in stepping away from the panel.

"I didn't even know that was being discussed even, I don't speak for other people but my understanding is he's ready to go and wants to play again," the All-Star wing-back told Off The Ball's Joe Molloy.

"I'm open to correction and I'm sure he'll ring me tonight if I've got it wrong."

Current footballer of the year Cluxton is currently recovering from a shoulder injury and went on the team's recent holiday to Bali.

"My understanding is that he's gung-ho to play again," McCaffrey added.

I think he had a little operation on his shoulder, I don't know what his medical situation is so I don't want to be speculating on that. He went off on the holiday with the lads and I really hope he's playing again."

Ahead of the PwC GAA/GPA All-Stars in November, the Parnells and Dublin 'keeper had indicated that he was still driven to keep playing inter-county:

“It's more or less what is best for the team. I think if I'm not the best for the job I don't have a problem with that. If I've given my all and we come up short, then I don't have a problem with that. I'm definitely hungry and competitive for success.

If you get beaten and you're beaten by a better team then hats off and you maybe have to have a look at next year and doing more."
