League of Ireland clubs have discovered who they will play in Europe following the draws for the Champions League and Europa League.

SSE Airtricity League champions Dundalk have been handed a tough assignment as they will meet BATE Borisov of Belarus. The Lillywhites are representing Ireland in Europe’s top competition for the first time since 1991. The Louth club avoided Celtic, who were paired with Stjarnan of Iceland, but Borisov have won the Belarussian League for the last nine years. They have also reached the group stages of the Champions League in five of the past seven seasons.

The first leg will take place in Belarus on either the 14th or 15th of July, with the return tie scheduled for Oriel Park for a week later.  Dundalk will be following in the footsteps of Porto, Shakhtar Donetsk and Athletic Bilbao in playing Champions League football at the impressive Borisov Arena.

The Europa League draw was kinder to the League of Ireland teams. FAI Cup winner’s St Patrick's Athletic were drawn against Skonto Riga of Latvia. Cork City are heading to the Icelandic capital to play K-R Reykjavík. Shamrock Rovers will face FC Progrès Niederkorn.  UCD were also paired with a team from Luxembourg. The First Division side, who qualified for Europe on the fair play rule will meet F-91 Dudelange.

The first qualifying round matches are due to be played 2nd and 9th of July.
