Liverpool v Sunderland
Liverpool had to settle for 0-0 draw at Southampton last week which was only the third time in the league this season that they’ve failed to score.
However Jurgen Klopp’s side are still the top scorers in the division and they’re only one point behind leaders Chelsea.
Adam Lallana looks set to miss out for Liverpool once again with a groin injury. The former Southampton midfielder has become a key player for the club since Klopp took over. Liverpool have drawn 0-0 twice in the league this season (Manchester United and Southampton) when Lallana didn’t start either game. He came on for the last half an hour against United at Anfield and there was a noticeable difference in Liverpool’s play after his introduction that night.
Sunderland rescued an unlikely point in the corresponding fixture last season when Liverpool let a two goal lead slip shortly after the fans walked out of Anfield in protest to ticket prices.
Sunderland have won back to back league games to ease the pressure on David Moyes. Jermain Defoe scored his 150th Premier League goal in the win over Hull, a game that saw Victor Anichebe bag his third goal in two games.
David Moyes knows the 28 year old well from his time at Everton and Anichebe has delivered over the last few weeks. Klopp has warned his players to be wary of the physicality of the Sunderland striker.
The last time Sunderland won at Anfield was 1983 and I’d be surprised if they ended the long wait for a league win away to Liverpool tomorrow.
