Lowry to play alongside defending champion Knox at Irish Open

2009 winner Shane Lowry will be in a group with defending champion Russell Knox and Ryder Cup star Tommy Fleetwood for the first two rounds of this week's Dubai Duty Free Irish Open.

That trio will be out for their first rounds in Lahinch at 8.40am on Thursday with Lowry aiming to win the tournament ten-years after his victory as an amateur at The Baltray.

"My game is there," said Lowry ahead of what he's calling his 'fifth major' in Clare this week.

"When I went out to play in the first round of the US Open two weeks ago, I felt as good about my game as I've ever done in my life.

"That I didn't play well that day didn't upset me, because I knew I would be able to come out and play well on the Friday - and I did.

Having won in Abu Dhabi earlier this year, the Offaly man is keen to add to that success.

"I'd love another win for the second half of the season, but then I'd be greedy because on January 1st this year, I said to myself that I was going to get one win in 2019."

Graeme McDowell will be out on course alongside Thorbjorn Olsesen and former world number one Martin Kaymer at 8.30am.

Jon Rahm, who won on a tournament record score of 24-under-par at Portstewart in 2017, is in a group with Louis Oosthuizen and Matt Wallace.

European Ryder Cup captain Padraig Harrington will have Tyrrell Hatton and Ian Poulter for company for the first two days while Paul Dunne joined by Lee Westwood and Eddie Pepperell.

Seamus Power's European debut will see him out with Tom Lewis and Joost Luiten, Gavin Moynihan is in a group with Marcus Kinhult and former Masters champion Danny Willett.
