Mandroiu given one-game ban for throwing projectile at Bohemians fans

Danny Mandroiu has been banned for one match for his reaction to Bohemians' fans after last week's FAI Cup tie.

Shamrock Rovers lost the last-16 match 2-1, after a late goal from Andy Lyons settled the Dublin derby at Dalymount Park.

Former Bohs midfielder Mandroiu had been on the receiving end of chants from the home fans after making the cross-Liffey switch before the start of the 2021 season.

Mandroiu's partner was also subjected to verbal abuse from a section of the home support.

The 22-year old responded by appearing to launch an object from the ground back towards the Jodi Stand.

Bohemians later wrote to members to condemn the chants, saying, "This is not the image of the club we want portrayed to current and potential new supporters, particularly women and girls.

"We ask any supporters who engaged in that chanting and personal abuse to reflect on the unnecessary hurt they have caused to the targeted individual, and the discomfort they have caused to other supporters in attendance."

Mandroiu has been handed a one-game suspension by the FAI, ruling him out of the SSE Airtricity Premier Division leaders' Friday night trip to Finn Harps.

The FAI described his transgression as a "non-card offence”.

Rovers are already without captain Ronan Finn for the game in Ballybofey.

He was dismissed in the FAI Cup defeat for an elbow on Bohemians striker Georgie Kelly - who was also red carded for his reaction.

Despite video evidence of Finn's foul later emerging, his manager Stephen Bradley continued to plead his innocence.

"I've seen it back a number of times now and the ref has made the decision," the Hoops boss said, "and in my opinion it's wrong that Ronan has got sent off. But he's made the decision and we have to accept it."
