ODCE asks for High Court clarification on FAI documents

The Officer of the Director of Corporate Enforcement has asked the High Court to determine if documents given to it by the Football Association of Ireland contain privileged legal material.

An affidavit was lodged by the ODCE in the High Court this afternoon in connection with the 2014 Companies Act.

Lawyers for the ODCE say it relates to "potentially legally privileged material".

The move follows controversy surrounding a 100-thousand Euro loan provided by the former CEO John Delaney to the FAI in 2017.

The FAI were ordered to hand over copies of books and documents to the ODCE last month which contained the minutes of three years of meetings of the association's board.

Those documents were handed over earlier this week and the ODCE now want the High Rule to rule whether the FAI can claim legal privilege over the material.
