Patrick Reed omitted as Stricker names US Ryder Cup team

United States captain Steve Stricker has revealed his Ryder Cup team, and there's no room for Patrick Reed.

The 2018 Masters champion is the most notable omission from a strong dozen named for the showdown with Europe at Whistling Straits.

Fierce rivals Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau are both included, as is Open Champion and Ryder Cup rookie, Collin Morikawa.

The USA are looking to secure back-to-back wins on home soil, following their victory at Hazeltine in 2016. Europe regained the famous trophy in Paris three-years ago.

Padraig Harrington will confirm the remainder of his European team after the BMW Championship concludes at Wentworth on Sunday. Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm, Paul Casey, Tommy Fleetwood and Viktor Hovland are the only confirmed members of Team Europe so far.

Addressing Reed's omission, Stricker admitted, "It was a very difficult call, I lost sleep over that one".

The burly Texan has been an ever-present on US Ryder Cup teams following his debut in 2014. He also played President's Cup golf in 2015, 2017 and 2019.

Instead, Stricker opted for Daniel Berger, Harris English, Tony Finau, Xander Schauffele, Scottie Scheffler and  Jordan Spieth as his captain's picks.
