Like it or not, and there is a growing worldwide fan base, UFC bosses have an incredible PR machine and are very tuned in to their supporters. It might have been on the cards for a while but featherweight champion Jose Aldo has officially withdrawn from his planned mixed martial arts bout with Irelands Conor Mcgregor due to the rib injury sustained in training last week. When news of the threat to the bout later this month broke, McGregor immiediately tweeted it will be 'business as usual'. Thereby shoring up tickets that could have been cancelled as a result.
The Dubliner will now take on Chad Mendes, who the UFC had put in place as a contingency plan, for an interim title instead.
McGregor has since tweeted in a fashion you might expect. Thousands will still shout him on in Vegas as the Notorious bandwagon shows no sign of slowing down.
They can run. But they can't hide.
