Liverpool put a tough week behind them yesterday in our feature game on Premier League Live with Sky Sports, with second half goals for Daniel Sturridge, Roberto Firmino and Georginio Wijnaldum giving them a 3-0 win against Huddersfield.

After enduring a torrid time in the 4-1 defeat to Spurs last week, it surprised many to see Dejan Lovren named in the starting team for Liverpool, although the Croatian did end up missing the game, picking up an injury in the warm-up.

Liverpool's defensive problems dominated the pre-game discussion with Mark Lawrenson and Brian Kerr, presenter Philip Egan asking the pair why Liverpool failed to strengthen their back four, while at the same time spending £35m on Alex Oxlade Chamberlain.

Brian Kerr pointed to their pursuit of Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk, and how their failure to look at an alternative player has come back to haunt them

"Obviously they put all their eggs in the one basket with van dijk, and that didn’t work out.

"You might say they should have had someone else ready, obviously their judgement was there wasn't another one."

That echoed Lawro's thoughts, with the former Liverpool man saying the club weren't prepared to spend money on players just for the sake of it.

"If what’s available isn’t better than what you’ve got, then what’s the point?"
