Tottenham snap up Bryan Gil from Sevilla in swap deal with Erik Lamela

Bryan Gil has become the second signing of the new hierarchy at Tottenham Hotspur.

The Spain winger has cost Spurs €25million to pry away from Sevilla, along with Erik Lamela as a make-weight. He's signed a five-year deal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Gil's arrival follows that of the loan signing of Atalanta goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini at the weekend.

The 20-year old made his La Liga debut for Sevilla in January 2019, spending the following two seasons on loan at Leganes and Eibar respectively.

Gil scored four goals and provided three assists in his 28 La Liga games at Eibar last term. His form saw him given his first senior Spain cap in March's World Cup qualifier draw with Greece, with his second coming three days later against Georgia.

Currently on duty with the Olympic squad in Tokyo, he was introduced as a substitute in the games with Egypt and Australia.

Lamela's departure ends an eight-season spell at Spurs. Signed with the so-called 'Gareth Bale money' in 2013, the Argentine became known more for sporadic exceptional goals rather than being a consistently reliable teammate.

Only twice did Lamela play more than 30 Premier League games a season during his time in North London.

Arguably Lamela's best campaign, was 2015-16 when he scored 11 goals in 44 games, helping a side managed by Mauricio Pochettino finish 3rd in the Premier League.
