Tributes paid to Irish sprinter Craig Lynch who has passed away

Tributes are being paid to 29-year-old Irish sprinter Craig Lynch who passed away over the weekend after being involved in a car crash in county Meath.

The teacher from county Cavan has been National Indoor 60-metres champion in 2016. He had also been part of the Ireland team that represented the country at the 2015 World Relay Championships - alongside Thomas Barr, Brian Murphy, Brian Gregan, Richard Morrissey, and Dara Kervick.

It is believed he had been the only person in the car when it hit a wall on the Slane road near Kells in the early hours of Sunday morning.

His club, Shercock AC posted on Facebook paying tribute, "following the tragic death of Craig Lynch, one of our most talented athletes, in a car accident last night, our thoughts and sympathies are with his parents, brothers, sisters, daughter, fiancée and all family members, indeed the whole Shercock community at this sad time. Rest in peace Craig."

Athletics Ireland has also said in a statement passing its deepest condolences to his family, friends, and clubmates.
