Up to 4,000 fans to be allowed inside UK stadiums from December

Fans are set to return to UK stadiums on a meaningful basis for the first time since March.

Reports claim that up to 4,000 spectators will be allowed to attend outdoor sporting events once the current lockdown in Britain ends on December 2.

Supporters have been - bar the odd dalliance with limited numbers - locked out of UK sporting venues since the pandemic took hold in mid-March.

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson is set to allow the introduction of new regulations to allow supporters return to stadiums before Christmas.

In low-risk (Tier 1) regions, either 4,000 fans or 50 per cent of a stadium’s capacity – whichever is lower - will be allowed attend outdoor events.

Indoor events for Tier 1 areas will be capped at 2,000 fans or 50 per cent capacity.

Tier 2 areas will be allowed a maximum of 2,000 fans, while Tier 3 regions will see sport continue behind closed doors.

Johnson is set to confirm the news later on Monday.
