"Why not give it another spin?" - New deal for Gartland at Dundalk

Brian Gartland has become the latest player to commit to Dundalk for the 2021 season.

The imposing centre-half turned 34 in November, and is the latest member of the Lilywhites' squad to put pen to paper on a new deal.

Gartland joined Dundalk from Portadown in 2013, and has become a pillar of their successful run over the past eight years.

He's won five SSE Airtricity Premier Division titles and three FAI Cups. Gartland's also a veteran of both of Dundalk's runs through the UEFA Europa League group phase.

"I’m delighted to be back for another season," he told DundalkFC.com, "When I first arrived here in 2013 I signed for three months and I said: ‘I’ll see how it goes!’

“The last nine years have a been a rollercoaster, a really amazing time, and a massive, happy chunk of my life. I’ve loved it, so why not give it another spin!"

It's been a close-season up squad upheaval at Dundalk thus far.

Sean Gannon and Sean Hoare departed for Shamrock Rovers, and goalkeeper Gary Rogers has retired.

In have come Albanian goalkeeper Alessio Abibi, and Norwegian striker Ole Erik Midtskogen. Perhaps crucially, the likes of Michael Duffy, Dave McMillan, Daniel Kelly and Cameron Dummigan have all signed new deals.

Dundalk also appointed former Northern Ireland international Jim Magilton as sporting director.

"We have a brilliant squad and a lot of the lads have obviously signed back and there’ll hopefully be more arriving in the weeks ahead," Duffy told the club's site.

"Jim is involved now and I’m sure he’ll add some good players to the squad.

"He had me with the Northern Ireland U21s for a few years so I know him well and I love working under him. He played a big part in my decision and I’ve no doubt he’ll be great for the club."
