According to a new survey Brits have more that 50 names for their remote controls: everything from zapper to switcher, flapper to troll.

Ian Dempsey Breakfast Show listeners shared their nicknames today. Wow, we are an imaginative bunch:

  • Ian, our remote control is called 'FRANK'. Frank Zapper!! I’m showing my age now! Jim
  • Mines called the wife, but she controls more than the tv !!! Shane. In carrigtwohill, co cork
  • The bippers:D mary wex
  • Shackle troller or digereedoo!!!
  • Ours is called the power
  • We call it The Buttons Jim from Kilcullen
  • Pass us over the jerry there Ian will ya Davy in cork
  • We call it the gun in my house. Niall
  • Morning Ian. My daughter leyla called it the ‘tro-camole’ from when she first talked, and she’s a huge tv fan!!!So much so that the rest of the family did too and do so to this day and Leyla’s 14 now

  • Ours is called That contraption with the 3 rolls of Sellotape and 7 rolls of multi coloured insulation tape wrapped around it!!

Gary had a very sensible observation: Ian it's called a remote because that's the chances of finding it when you want to change channels. How true.
