After the understated brilliance of last year’s soundtrack to French TV spook-fest “The Returned”, Rave Tapes finds Mogwai very much firing on all cylinders. A more immediate, ear-friendly dispatch than last album proper “Hardcore Will Never Die...” yet without the slightly off-putting monolithic approach of some of their other releases, this finds the bad striking out for new sonic territory on a varied, but not variable collection. Nice to find their sly humour present and correct on tracks like “Repelish”, a must-hear for fans of the Zep.
