This morning, we read in the Irish Daily Mirror about Pol Og O'Foighil from Co Galway, who reconfigured his electric blanket to spell out "Lisa Will You Marry Me." (She said yes). We put the question out to the listeners of the Ian Dempsey Breakfast Show, and we got some lovely stories! Have a look!

Hi Ian! My now wife, Orla, was working in Bangalore in India. I travelled over, and we were to go travelling. We headed for Agra and the Taj Mahal was where I popped the question. As we hugged, we got a tap on the shoulder by two soldiers who escorted us to the gate and we were asked to leave! Who knew PDAs were illegal, haha! Happily married with our little legend of a baby now! David from Balbriggan

I proposed to my GF at Electric Picnic 2 years ago. We'd just seen Ed Sheeran at the Today FM tent and sometimes the moment is just right..! We married in October this year. Sean and Lisa, in Longford

Iano my husband turned around to me while I was loading the dishwasher and said “I suppose we should think about getting married this year”. And that was it! Start as you mean to go on I suppose!

Got engaged on Garryvoe beach in August few years back. She said thank you about five times! I was shocked she said yes and ended up saying “Happy Birthday”! Her birthday is in April.

When my hubby proposed, we were in a restaurant and he reached into his pocket. I thought he might have produced a ring but no, it was a bus ticket. He waited till later in the evening, when we were in the Westbury (site of our first date) to propose. Oh, and you Ian were at the next table. Elaine. Kilcullen

We went to New York and my now husband got our picture on the big screen out side Toysrus on Times Square. I nearly died but it was lovely. We are now married 4 years and have a wonderful son. Love your show Ian.  Jen Loughlin

Hi Ian, my now hubby gave me a plastic rose 10 years ago on Christmas morning I thought it was a fake flower & threw it to one side not once, but twice. He went very pale until he told me to open the petals – and lo and behold, there was a beautiful engagement ring! The most unromantic man in the world just shocked me! We’re married 8 years have a lovely 5 year old son Killian and a new baba due in March! Cheers, Laura

And Linda sent us a lovely email showing us that it doesn't always have to be traditional:

We had our trip all booked, 5 days in Cologne in Germany, I had a ring got and a plan in hand! We both are nerds when it comes to board games and our favourite being Scrabble. I bought a new scrabble board game and with the help of a friend glued the letter pieces on spelling out "Gary will you marry me?" I got Hasbro to seal the box as if it was never opened to add to the effect!

The night before we were due to travel to Germany and Gary couldn't find his passport!!! We tried everything we could to get on that plane but nothing worked! I was as cool as a breeze! How I have no idea but he was the one all panicked and upset!

We drove back home from the airport and I booked a romantic night in a lush hotel in Cork.

We were getting ready for dinner and I gave Gary his present. He opened it and looked confused! "We have two Scrabble boards, why do we need a third?"

I just said I think we should play a game now! He opened it and I went down on 2 knees!! I was so nervous I forgot it should only be one!!

I tried to get the words out but I just cried, I opened the ring box and he knew!! He started crying and he said yes!!!

We are now living in South Korea and Teaching English and figuring out our wedding in the meantime!.

A proposal doesn't always have to be traditional. I want to be his wife! I did the work!!

Happiest girl alive!!
