He founded the Capuchin Day Centre which helps people in need

Brother Kevin Crowley has been honoured with the Oireachtas Human Dignity Award for his work with the homeless and people in need.

He is the 4th recipient of the award which recognises those committed to the promotion of human dignity.

Br Kevin founded the Capuchin Day Centre in Dublin in 1969 which provides hot meals, food parcels, clothing and day care for people in need.

Last year the centre assisted an average of 1,000 people per day.

After receiving the award in Leinster House this morning Br Kevin said the Capuchins were committed to meeting the needs of their “homeless and needy friends” for as long as is necessary.

However he says it's their hope "that one day there will be no need for our service because everyone will have the social and financial resources to live life to the full".
