The Citizens' Assembly has backed a change in the way elections are called.
Members supported the move by a narrow margin - 51 per cent to 49 per cent.
In the event the constitution is changed, they voted to recommend fixed term parliaments of 4 years.
They also made recommendations on the circumstances that would cut short the parliamentary term.
