Bad news for Republic of Ireland fans.

Harry Arter looks unlikely to be fit in time to play Wales in Friday night's crucial World Cup qualifier.

He missed Bournemouth's 2-0 win against Swansea this evening with a thigh injury, and while it had been believed that the midfielder was just suffering from a minor knock, his manager Eddie Howe appears to have ruled him out of featuring in the upcoming international break.

When asked by Today FM's Peter Hood about the player's availability for the game against Wales, Howe said it doesn't look likely.

"I think he'll be potentially out of the Ireland squad. I don't know officlly, but I would have thought there's no way he'll play."
