Today FM this afternoon accepted the resignation of our lunch time presenter, Al Porter.
In a statement released by Mr Porter this afternoon he said he had been unaware of the complaints highlighted in the media and on social networks and he apologised for any distress he may have caused.
Mr Porter said his conduct, which had been in keeping with his flamboyant and outrageous public persona may be regarded as offensive and unacceptable by many people, he at no time intended to upset anyone.
He said he had been unaware of these complaints or the impact of my conduct up until now and said he is 'truly sorry for any distress I may have caused in what I had regarded as light-hearted and good-natured circumstances'.
Mr Porter added that on legal advice, he cannot comment on specific allegations at the present time, and he nonetheless sincerely apologise to anyone he may have genuinely offended.
He said he is very grateful to Today FM, the Olympia Panto and TV3 for the space and time he's been granted to deal with the situation.
The presenter added that he needs time away from the spotlight after decades in the entertainment industry.
He informed Today FM of his resignation with the station with immediate effect and thanks his family, friends and colleagues for their support.
Today FM will not be commenting any further at this time.
