With the Vodafone Comedy Carnival on in Galway this week, Al and the team headed west to do a live show from the Róisín Dubh this afternoon.

Whenever you use the words 'comedy' and 'Irish' in the same sentence, it usually involves one of these two names - Al Porter or Tommy Tiernan.

Al was delighted to get the chance to chat to the enigmatic Navan native live on air, as he's one of his favourites.

Tommy always brings a sense of the unknown with him, because not only is he side-splittingly funny, he is also of huge intellect, and a deep thinker, making him very interesting to listen to.

The two lads chatted about working in their industry, where Tommy finds "if your job is craic - your relief is despair", and it makes sense in a way. He also finds fulfillment in the ordinary things in life, "like country roads, and I love hedges"

Mindfulness plays a big part in Tommy's life at present (even though he doesn't admit it), and speaks about finding a comfort in himself where he doesn't care what other people think. 'Be yourself' is basically what he asks people to do as, "other people's opinions of you are only a trap".

What would an interview without religion be ehh? But Tommy takes a different approach to usual and told Al that he has turned to "the man upstairs" in a way, but which man? "I think to grow up in Ireland our imaginations are naturally Christian".

He also speaks very highly of the late Sean Hughes, they both do actually, with Tommy saying "he was a pleasure to work with". Al also shares his memories of one of the originals.

Tommy finishes off likening himself to an ass...and the crowd were in knots!!
