Tens of thousands voted.

TodayFM's Fergal D'Arcy has beaten off competition from the whole country to take the coveted position as the best DJ in Ireland as voted by tens of thousands of the Irish public.

Fergal walked away with the top prize in the Radio DJ category in the Hot Press Readers’ Poll.

According to the magazine,

"Fergal is a staunch supporter of Irish artists. In studio he's had Hermitage Green, Jafaris, RuthAnne, Ódu, Kodaline, Ann Marie, Gavin James and The Riptide Movement. In October 2019, he made a poignant contribution to the Pieta House Now We’re Talking event in Dublin’s Smock Alley."

Upon hearing the good news Fergal said:

"It's so humbling to receive a nomination for this, let alone come out on top.  I'm thrilled and the fact it comes from a magazine I've been following since I was a child and listeners votes makes it all the more worthwhile.  As far as I'm concerned I'm still learning every day but to know I'm going in the right direction is incredibly heartening. Thank you."

Fergal was closely followed by his TodayFM colleague Ian Dempsey who romped home into second place AND by our Paul McCloone who also made the Top Ten.

Here is the final list:

1. Fergal Darcy, Today FM
2. Ian Dempsey, Today FM
3. Jenny Greene, 2fm
4. Annie Mac, BBC Radio One
5. Dave Fanning, 2fm
6. Eoin McDermott, 2fm
7. John Creedon, Radio One
8. Tom Dunne, Newstalk
9. Tara Stewart, 2fm
10. Paul McLoone, Today FM
