Last Tuesday we partnered with The National Lottery to run a competition on our Facebook page.

The competition gave our Facebook Fans (friends, you’re our friends, right?) a chance to bag themselves €2,500.

The way it goes in the Today FM towers is that for every competition that we host on our Facebook Page we choose a random winner through a random number generator online (its very handy… check it out here).

This time around, our random number generator brought us to one of the best winners we have ever had.

Friends…meet Damien.

Damien is getting married to his beautiful Fiance, Katie, in x days.

When we got in touch with Damien about his win, he told us what he was going to use the prize money for and it was one of the greatest things we have ever heard.

“I'm a huge Ghostbusters fanatic and I have the full costume except the proton pack.”, he said.

“It's a childhood dream to have one. However, I am getting married in one week, May 25th, so any savings for a proton pack have been redirected into the wedding/honeymoon fund.”

What is a Proton Pack I hear you say? Here’s a handy definition:

You see… it turns out that Damien is actually a member of Ghostbusters Ireland.

“Ghostbusters Ireland consists of myself, Stuart McCarthy and Jonathan O'Brien from Douglas, and Stephen O'Rourke from Waterford. We are a group of serious Ghostbusters fans with a pretty extensive collection of memorabilia, props and costumes from the franchise and an interest in the paranormal. We've even gone the extra mile and recently all 4 of us completed online diploma courses in parapsychology”, he shared with us.

“I've seen proton packs sell for between €1,500 and €2500. You can also buy kits to build them yourself which is the route I'm going to go and it is a lot cheaper. I've been in touch with Ben of Kent props in the UK and I'm pretty sure I'll be able to build a full pack with working lights and sounds for about €1000 with the help of my fellow Ghostbusters Ireland members.”
