It's back and looks better than ever

It has been some 583 days since Peaky Blinders was last on our screens but the wait is almost over.

While there's been rumours that the show will premiere in mid-August, the BBC have yet to confirm when we'll be reunited with Tommy Shelby and co.

But they have given us a sneak peak of what we can expect in what looks to be an explosive fifth series.

And here's what we know so far from the official plot synopsis:

Series five of Steven Knight's crime family saga finds the world thrown into turmoil by the financial crash of 1929. Opportunity and misfortune are everywhere. When Tommy Shelby MP (Cillian Murphy) is approached by a charismatic politician with a bold vision for Britain, he realises that his response will affect not just his family's future but that of the entire nation.

Speaking about the upcoming series, Steven Knight said: "The story of the Peaky Blinders and of the Shelby family gets woven into the political fabric of Britain and Europe as the 1920s end and the thirties begin. Tommy Shelby faces the darkest force he has ever faced and his struggle is as relevant today as it was then."

There's also some exciting cast additions for the new series including Irish actors Brian Gleeson and Charlene McKenna.

Have you missed out on the show so far?

We've worked it out, it'll take you 22 hours and 48 minutes to catch up. So get to it.

And if you're a Peaky Blinders fan, stay tuned to Dermot and Dave for their exclusive chat with Cillian Murphy in the coming weeks.
