Summer is here and the kids are off school!
Producer, Maria Devereux asked the Dermot and Dave listeners to share their top tips when it comes to keeping the kids entertained during the summer. Here are some of the best suggestions:
Ice Dome – put toys into a bowl and fill with water. Put into the freezer overnight. Give your child tools to free their toys from the ice (paint brush with warm water, toy hammer, etc.)
Homemade Nail Salon – Trace your hands on cardboard and cut out, draw nails on each finger. Let your child use their imagination to decorate the nails.
Paint outdoors – Give your child a basin of water and a paintbrush. Let them outside to “paint” the fence or wall.
Sistine Chapel In Your Kitchen – Cover the under side of your kitchen table with plain paper. Get pillows (that you don’t mind getting covered in paint) and pop them under the table. Give your child a paint brush and some paints to create a masterpiece under your table.
Berry Picking – Find local berry bushes and take some bowls and water. Let the kids go to town on picking blackberries.
Draw a new Mammy/Daddy/Family – Lie on the ground outside your house. Let your child trace around you with chalk. When you get up they can use your outline to create someone new. They could create a whole new family in your garden.
Cooking – Get your child involved in making lunch/dinner. Use child friendly recipes and methods like making pizzas. Your child might be more enticed to eat vegetables if they’ve had a hand in putting it all together.
