This morning we learned on The Early Breakfast that according to the newspapers, the best thing to eat before doing exercise is a marmalade sandwich, as it slowly releases energy into the body.

It's a shame that marmalade is so disgusting though - and I stood by that statement until listeners got in touch to tell me what they like to eat on bread. Suddenly a marmalade sandwich seemed really, really appetising.

Here is our listener suggestions:

- Banana and mayo on brown wheat bread! From Al. – banana and mayonnaise? Ewwwww!

- Hi Paula, it’s not a sandwich but it’s one hell of a snack! Packet of Tayto with a packet of salted peanuts thrown into it! Massive! Jim – Jim, stick that on some bread and you’ve got yourself a deal

- My granny used to give us sugar sandwiches. When I think of it now, I cringe! Crunchy sugar on bread is just wrong! Mary

- Ham and jam. I eat it in secret at home because people think it's wrong. Something so delicious can't be wrong.

- Paula I can’t believe you like banana sandwiches, that is mingin’. – it’s a childhood comfort

- P, I was a design engineer in Limerick - the boss put blackcurrant jam on sausages and used to comment on me putting ketchup on a fried egg.

- Hi Paula, I love smokey bacon crisps and peanut butter sandwiches – that actually sounds delicious

- Honey sandwiches, no butter just bread and honey! Lots of honey! Delicious! Dave

- Peanut and red sauce sandwiches ( happyface) – heathen

- Paula my favourite sandwich is egg salad but I can never bring them to work because they’ll all give out to me. I’m such a good person. Tom – and the Nobel Peace Prize 2017 goes to...

- Don’t knock this until you’ve tried it but tinned salmon and red onions. – horrified
