David Lazarus of the LA Times spoke to Matt Cooper on The Last Word about Microsoft's buyout of Nokia. Is Nokia Finnish-ed or can Microsoft save the company?

Nokia’s Top Ten Biggest Selling Phones:

10: Nokia 5130 has sold 65m units (released 2007)

9: Nokia 6010, released in 2004, sold 75m units

8: Nokia 1208 has sold 100m units (released 2007)

7: Nokia 1600 has sold 130m units since its 2006 release

6: Nokia 2600, released in 2004, has sold 135m units

5: Nokia 3310, released in 2000, has sold 136m units  

4: Nokia 5230, released in 2010, has sold 150m units

3: Nokia 1200 has also sold 150m units (released 2007)

2: Nokia 3210 has sold in excess of 160m units (released in 1999)

1: Released in 2003, Nokia 1100 is the best-selling mobile of all time – more than 250m handsets have sold 

 

Some of Nokia's key moments:

1982: Nokia introduces the first car phone – the Mobira Senator – to the network

1987: Nokia introduces the Mobira Cityman, the first handheld mobile phone for NMT networks - it was nicknamed the ‘Gorba’ after Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev was pictured using one

1992: Nokia launches its first digital handheld GSM phone, the Nokia 1011

1994: Nokia launches the 2100 series, the first phones to feature the Nokia Tune ringtone (based on classical guitar piece ‘Gran Vals’)

1999: Nokia launches the Nokia 7110, a phone capable of basic web-based functions, including email

2001: Nokia launches its first phone with a built-in camera, the Nokia 7650

2002: Nokia launches its first video capture phone, the Nokia 3650, and its first 3G phone, the Nokia 6650 (with 3G technology phones can now be used to browse the web, download music, etc)

2011: Nokia launches its first Nokia with Windows Phones: Nokia Lumia 800 and Nokia Lumia 710
