A survey of parents in Britain has found that almost a tenth of children are given a mobile phone by the age of FIVE.

The study by uSwitch found that one in ten parents were happy to give a phone to a child not long after they start school.

It found that the average parent spent the equivalent of 145 euro on their child's phone, compared to 286 euro on their own.

The parents said giving their child a mobile was a good way of making sure they could be contacted them in an emergency.
